What Do You See?
What a wonderful gift we have to be able to see! Even greater is the ability to search out and discover the beauty that surrounds us. In the midst of noise and chaos, it becomes not a luxury but a necessary antidote to the stress-inducing cacophony of modern life. Stepping away, even briefly, can serve as a kind of “green prescription” —calming the nerves, soothing the soul and renewing the. spirit.
Suggestion:
Settle into a place where you feel safe and at ease, whether sitting, standing or lying down. Gently close your eyes, if that feels comfortable. Begin to notice your breath, allowing it to be slow, steady and easy…in through the nose and out again,
When you are ready, slowly begin to open your eyes. Notice the first thing that comes into your awareness. Take in the details— the shape, the color, the size. Is it moving? What is the first word that comes to mind when you see it? How would you describe it to someone who cannot see?
Now, time to use your imagination! If this object could talk, what do you think it would say? What would you ask it? Some things to wonder about; How long has it been there? Does it have roots, and if so, how deep are they? Is it afraid of anything? What do you suppose it would it have to say about you?
